![]() a lot of people mention that because more people build custom Node.js-based single page apps using the MEAN stack, or now do hip and trendy 'full stack development', and Drupal is some old monolith, Drupal has been left in the dust. It's helpful to know these things so we can figure out ways to avoid hitting all the same pain points in the future, and also as a sort of 'call to action' in case anyone reading this thinks they can push some initiative forward in one area or another (it's no coincidence I'm finishing this post on the flight to DrupalCon Seattle!). I'm exposing the dark side of a major open source project's decision to radically re-architect it's core software on an entirely new foundation. ![]() Drupal 8 FailuresĬaveat to those who read on-you may think I'm trying to disparage Drupal through the rest of this post. I won't answer all the questions above-there are a lot of nuances to each that I could not possibly answer in a blog post-but I do want to jot down a number of areas where I have seen pain (and usually experienced on my own) and which are still holding back widespread adoption of Drupal 8 by those who used to default to Drupal for 'all the things'. Time for my semi-annual pre- #DrupalCon informal poll: If you're still on #Drupal 7 and haven't moved to 8 yet, what's holding you back? (Please RT.)- webchick April 2, 2019 With 'ambitious digital experiences' being the new market Drupal targets, should I still build on it?Īnd the main driver for this post, in particular, was the following tweet by (Angie Byron), who coincidentally is probably the main reason I dove headfirst into the Drupal community many years ago after she mentored me through my first core patch (hi Angie!):.Should I upgrade to Drupal 8 now (or soon) since Drupal 8 to 9 will supposedly be a painless upgrade?.Should I stick with D7 LTS support for years and years, and re-platform on something else if I ever get the budget?.but it's the best data we have to work with. ![]() ![]() Play goes from sorta-controlled on-track settings, to ‘extreme weather’ conditions. Though there thankfully is a tutorial, the game throws gamers into a little of everything right from the jump. This is something that’s apparent from the very beginning of the game, and WRC 9 doesn’t ease players who might not be used to its mechanics (like me) into anything. ![]() Its brand is tough, rough, and takes place in all-elements. That’s pretty straightforward genre stuff, though as mentioned above, World Rally Championship 9’s races aren’t what you might be used to. Like all racing games, the point in WRC 9 is to hit the finish line with the best time, or before your opponents. Still, it was a bit of a trial by fire, and you’ll see what I meanly that. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, since it certainly presented something very different for me to review. As such, I had a rude awakening with WRC 9, the latest in the highly-regarded World Rally Championship series. Start your enginesĪre you a racing game fan? And if you are, do you dig titles the lean a little more to the arcade like the Forza series, or the more sim-like stuff like Gran Turismo?Īctually let’s go a little deeper still, because there’s another variable I’m going to throw at you – have you ever played a sim-tilted racer that was off road, rally style? I ask because there’s a huge difference in the gameplay you might be unaware of.įor me, it had been years and years since I’d played a rally title, and I honestly forgot what it was like. The official game of FIA brings the wild world of rally racing to next generation consoles. ![]() Coming in 2021 there is also the WRC eSports League once again.World Rally Championship is back once again in WRC 9. Occasionally there will also be a Special Challenge with a real-life prize such as a watch or something extra. There are daily and weekly events where you can earn points based on leaderboard position too. There are 50 challenges in total and range from Extreme Condition races, where you need to get as far as possible, to Maintenance challenges – in these you can only repair certain parts of the car before then taking it out for a spin.Įven in Multiplayer, you are presented with several options, letting you create or join lobbies where players can form their own rulesets or rallies, or you may choose to compete in an Online Event. The better your performance, the more points you are awarded, and these then collect to unlock more challenges. Another personal favourite was Challenge mode that gives you short and sharp races with three objectives to complete. There is always this element of the unknown when approaching a corner will the car turn as anticipated or will there be too much understeer? This seems to happen more when on gravel or asphalt, less so when on slippier surfaces such as snow or dirt.Īway from Career mode, there are plenty of other options to choose from. Handling has been improved on the cars in general, but still feels a bit hit and miss. I would have expected morale to be at an all-time high when earning a promotion, likewise when sticking with the same manufacturer through divisions too. However, when taking on new contracts in higher WRC divisions, morale and relationships seem to reset. ![]() ![]() This allows a greater volume of air into the tyre and most times, will pop the tyre onto the bead. If you have trouble mounting a tubeless tyre, these tips can help: That can save making a big mess and losing a bunch of sealant. Err…Īlways dry mount a tyre first sans sealant to ensure it will seat and hold air. I did just that and honestly didn’t notice any difference. The rotational arrow on each tyre should be in sync with forward rotation of the tyre.Ī review wouldn’t be proper unless I intentionally installed at least one of the sample tyres backwards. Like just about every other WTB tyre we’ve encountered, the Resolutes are intended to be mounted directionally, meaning, pay attention to the rotational arrows on the sidewall (which are a little tough to spot). Orange Seal’s Endurance Formula Sealant was the sealant of choice for both wheel and tyre sizes. For the duration of the review, the Resolute 42 650b tyres were mounted on an American Classic Wide Lightning 650b wheelset, while the 700c version was mounted onto a Hunt 30Carbon Gravel Disc wheelset. Expect similar performance from American Classic or Stan’s NoTubes valves. The sample WTB Resolute tyres mounted easily using Bontrager’s TLR Flash Charger pump and WTB’s valves. TCS is designed to make tubeless tyre setup an easy process. TCS is a “system” that also includes rim tape, tubeless valves and sealant. The Resolute 42 650b sample tyres came in overweight, a little more than the usual + or – 2% that most manufacturers list to cover themselves for variances during the production process. As the photos above and below indicate, our review samples came in underweight, which can be seen as a positive, especially if you’re a gram counter. Weighing it up Resolute sample tyre 700c x 42.įor the Resolute 42 in 700c, manufacturer listed weight is 460 grams. Additionally, the tan sidewalls of the WTB Resolute 42 add a touch of class to the Orbea Terra. This is another good example of running a wide 650b tyre on a bike designed originally for 700c x 40mm tyres. The Resolutes will fit between the chainstays of the Orbea Terra gravel bike (pictured above), another machine we are reviewing at the time of writing. The Resolute 42’s are an easy fit into one of our current review bikes, the Lynskey PRO GR titanium gravel bike, and a former review bike, the Lynskey GR250. As alluded to above, WTB claims the Resolute performs across all conditions, whether they be wet, dry, sandy, dusty or muddy. The WTB Resolute tyre was inspired by Trans Iowa to be an all conditions tyre, designed around a rim with an internal width of 23mm. WTB’s marketing department kindly sent Gravel Cyclist a pair of the Resolute 42 tyres in 650b and 700c for review. Truly all-season in nature, its 42mm width makes it a set-it-and-forget-it gravel tire for endlessly undulating roads through all varieties of weather.” “Resolute 42 is the ultimate all-weather gravel tyre for those who believe there is a perfect tread pattern for every ride.
